Johnny Nobody Celebrates A Decade
07-14-2011
A band celebrating it's tenth year is not a an easy feat. The weight of inner turmoil and a desire to break out or bust usually causes most bands to rupture from the inside out. What has happened since the great buffalo trio "Johnny Nobody" struck it's first chord? The curse of the Bambino was lifted and Vancouver rioted in the streets to give us a famous kiss. The prophecy of the Canadian band the Tragically Hip came true; New Orleans actually did sink under the wrath of a hurricane called Katrina.

Johnny Nobody is rock and roll without the bother of clever genre and marketable classification. Hard to slot in a category is more than complimentary; it's a refreshing break from the musical norm. Their sound is wails of jangle and full of heavy blues riffage. A company of good old fashion rock aesthetics but also surprisingly complex, fearlessly daring themselves to flex their sound beyond conventional roots when choosing the foreground of arrangement. One can sense influences of Radiohead synthesis and the pop sensibility of Superdrag that gives this band more dimensions than would be expected. The crown jewel of this project though is by far the musicianship. Singer slash guitarist Andrew Vaeth is a gifted vocalist; a chameleon of delivery and a master of melodic harmony with a knack for infectious hooks. Johnny Nobody as a whole is tight, creative, and a musical staple in the nickel city that commands respect from it's growing fanbase. A perfect excuse to leave your pool behind this weekend and stumble into the legendary Mohawk Place during this hot summer spell for a drink Friday night.
