Back To School Kids
09-10-2011 American boys & girls sharpened their number 2s and got back on the bus last week. The next generation of eager minds learning what we tell them and hopefully shaping a more elevated society in the years to come. This current crop of young musicians ready to start their own recycling plants seems to be marching forward with their very own Joan Of Arc, set to lead the charge with something old, something new, and something borrowed from across the fields of pop culture lore. The sassy poster girl for underground bedrooms is still the throwback darling of the year, Lana Del Rey, set for her first official release which can be pre ordered (here) and a brand new video for her second single, Blue Jeans, to go along with it. Lana is an amazing combination of Nancy Sinatra-esque swagger, voice, and 60's pin up girl beauty. What makes her so feel so fresh and innovative is the classic style performed to a soundtrack of hip hop beats and modern pop culture reference. She is our very own go go dancer frozen in time for fifty years who just thawed out only to fall in love all over again. The new video for Blue Jeans, like it's predecessor Video Games, is the perfect compliment to Lana's already striking persona by once again brilliantly unleashing a barrage of stock footage back and forth between the calm songstress singing, eyes fixated dead into the lens and casting a spell of enchantment on the unsuspecting and cynical masses.
Did you know that Florida is the only state in the union where you can say you reside on either the west or east coast? Young Circles is a young band from east coast Florida's favorite sun drenched city, Miami.

Jungle Habits, released in late August, is their fabulous debut LP that showcases a hook laden sound that is a signature blend of endless genre that can puzzle and please the most schizophrenic of song loving historians. Elements of Verve era Brit rock vocals mixed with modern blues not unlike the now famous Black Keys as well as the stabbing slide of Yeah Yeah Yeah's guitar hooks just to name a few. Young Circles are another great example of good musicians making now classic sounds fresh again by just setting the inspiration dial to random. The spirit of this generations media driven youth ready to show off how deep the source material can go when everything is at their fingertips and only a key stroke away.
